Viral video: Chamika loses his four teeth while taking a catch in Lanka Premier League match
Even while cricket isn't a sport that involves much contact per definition, accidents can nonetheless happen. On December 6 (Wednesday), during a game in the Lanka Premier League between the Galle Gladiators and the Kandy Falcons, Sri Lanka bowler Chamika Karunaratne, who was playing for the Kandy team, had one such injury in a horrific fielding mishap.
Batsman Nuwanidu Fernando attempted to drive a ball from West Indian all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite, who is playing for the Kandy Falcons in the competition, in the fourth over of the Gladiators' inning. He did, however, ski the fall directly to Karunaratne. The ball appeared to have fallen from a considerable height directly into the Sri Lankan's mouth in a bad accident. Karunaratne endured the discomfort, but like a genuine hero, he held onto the catch. He was observed to be bleeding profusely from his mouth, and the doctors advised surgery.
