SP Balasubramanyam statue removal in Guntur turns controversial
Tollywood singer Gandharva and well-known singer SP Balasubrahmanyam passed away two years ago. A dispute has arisen over the placement of a statue of the late singer SP Balasubrahmanyam in the city of Guntur. The statue of singer Balu was erected by Kaladarbar on Sunday night at Mother Teresa Junction in Guntur. But after a short while, representatives of the civic council took down the statue of the iconic singer. The SP Balu statue was moved from the log and shifted to nearby water tankers.
Potturi Ranga Rao, the president of the Kala Darbar organisation, claimed that the authorities disregarded the public's wishes for the statue to remain in place. The bureaucrats have ignored our requests for authorization to erect the statue for the previous two years, he claimed. Ranga Rao questioned why SP Balu's statue had been taken down when there were other leaders' statues located throughout the city.
