A petition calling for Shah Rukh Khan to be charged in connection with a stampede that took place at the Vadodara Railway Station in January 2017 while the Hindi feature film Raees was being promoted was denied by the Supreme Court of India on Monday. The dismissal decision was made in response to a plea brought by one Jitendra Madhubhai Solanki, who had previously appealed to the Supreme Court a ruling by the Gujarat High Court that had dismissed a criminal complaint against the actor.

The petitioner claimed that after Khan hurled smiling balls and T-shirts at the audience, there was a stampede that resulted in one fatality.

The Gujarat High Court's order was not likely to be interfered with, according to the Supreme Court.
