Maharashtra crisis: SC orders protection of 39 rebel MLAs

27-06-2022 Mon 17:13

On the grounds that there shouldn't be a floor test in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly till July 11, the Supreme Court declined to issue any temporary orders. Eknath Shinde and the dissident Sena MLAs presented applications to the Supreme Court in an effort to overturn the disqualification notifications that the Maharashtra Deputy Speaker had sent to them. The dissident MLAs' attorney, Neeraj Kishan Kaul, said that a segment of the legislative party was undermining the state apparatus and that the homes of the rebel MLAs were being targeted.

In response, the Supreme Court ordered the Maharashtra administration to safeguard the lives, liberties, and property of 39 Shiv Sena dissident MLAs and their families.

The Shiv Sena leadership has been represented by senior attorney Abhishek Manu Singhvi.

Next, on July 11, the Supreme Court will hear the case.
