Kerala: Activists of CPM students wing attack Rahul Gandhi’s office in Wayanad
An SFI protest march against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's office in Kerala on Friday descended into violence after some protesters allegedly broke inside the office and vandalised it. SFI is the student arm of the ruling CPI(M).
The student organisation protested, claiming Gandhi had been powerless to address the issue of establishing buffer zones surrounding forests in Kerala's mountainous regions.
80 to 100 activists were present. Eight of them are currently in police custody. There have been more cops deployed.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, meanwhile, denounced the assault on Gandhi's office. "Democratic protest methods are permitted. But the tendency of violent protests is the wrong one. The perpetrators of the attack will face harsh punishment, he stated in a statement.
