Washington University develop Smartphone-Based COVID-19 test

25-01-2022 Tue 21:12

Researchers in the United States have created a low-cost smartphone-based COVID-19 diagnostic tool that combines the quickness of over-the-counter antigen testing with the precision of PCR tests. According to the researchers, the Harmony COVID-19 test developed by researchers at the University of Washington in the United States recognises genetic material from the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

While traditional PCR tests typically take several hours, the Harmony tool can produce findings in less than 20 minutes for some samples and with comparable accuracy, according to the researchers.

According to the researchers, a smartphone is used to control the detector and read the data. According to them, the detector can process up to four samples at once and would fit inside a regular car's glove compartment.
