Somu Veerraju arrested in Gudivada
The casino scandal in Gudivada, Krishna district, has heightened political tensions. At Nandamur, near Gudiwada, police detained BJP AP president Somu Veerraju and other politicians. Police brought them into custody after detaining them. Somu Veerraju tried to justify himself by claiming that they were headed to one of their party functions, but the cops ignored him. It was not permitted, according to police, because Section 144 was in effect in Gudivada.
BJP activists have organised a protest over the police's attitude. Tensions were high in the neighbourhood. BJP activists who were demonstrating were forcibly removed by police.
