Law Minister introduces bill to link Aadhaar with Voter ID in Lok Sabha

New Delhi: The bill on linking electoral rolls (Voter IDs) with the Aadhaar to avoid redundancy was in Lok Sabha on Monday. Opposition parties raised objections over the bill and demanded to roll back the Election Laws (Amendment) Bill. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor stated that Aadhaar is only meant to be proof of residence but it is not proof of citizenship. MIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi strongly opposed the bill and demanded to roll back it.

Congress leader Manish Tewari stated that Aadhaar Act will not allow Aadhaar to be linked with voter IDs. Law Minister Kiren Rijiju said that the Election Laws Bill,2021 will allow electoral registration officials to get Aadhaar number of people who want to register as voters.
