Telangana Govt letter to KRMB Chairman over Krishna irrigation projects
C Muralidhar, Telangana Engineer-in-Chief (Irrigation-General), wrote two letters to Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) chairman MP Singh on Tuesday regarding the expansion of the Nagarjuna Sagar left canal, ignoring the DPRs of the Nandikonda project submitted by the governments of undivided Andhra Pradesh. Muralidhar noted in the letter that the ayacut in Andhra Pradesh has been expanded to 3.78 acres, lowering the 60,000 acres ayacut in Telangana, and that there is no agreement between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on the Nagarjunasagar project.C. Muralidhar has also urged the board to limit water use up to the Kattaleru river, as per the Joint Project Report 1954, and to irrigate the territories covered by the seven components using other sources, such as the Chintalapudi lift irrigation project. In the letter, he requests that seven components of the Nagarjunasagar (NS) Left Canal be removed from Schedule-2 of the gazette notification until the KWDT-II award is finalised.
