Taliban ban barbers from trimming beards in Afghanistan
Taliban religious police have imposed a new diktat on hairdressers in Afghanistan. Barbers have been banned from having shaving or trimming beards of their customers. They were also told not to play music in their salons. Taliban officers warned that hairdressers must follow Sharia law for haircuts and beards. A notice by Taliban said that no one has a right to complain against the diktat. During the Taliban rule from 1996 to 2001, people were banned from flamboyant hairstyles. Clean-shaven looks and fashionable cuts became popular among Afghan men only after the Taliban was overthrown.
