Karnataka gets new chief minister
Following the resignation of Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Monday, the Bharatiya Janata Party has appointed Basavaraj Bommai as the state's new Chief Minister. Basavaraj Bommai entered politics with the JD (S). Basavaraj joined the BJP in 2008 and quickly climbed to the party's top ranks. Bommai's father, SR Bommai, was also a former state chief minister. Basavaraj Bommai is a two-time MLC and three-time MLA from Haveri's Shiggaon. Basavaraj, like Yediyurappa, is a member of the Lingayat community, which is regarded as the most powerful political group in Karnataka.
