According to reports, it detonated a massive 40,000-pound bomb beside its aircraft carrier, triggering an earthquake 100 miles away in Florida. The US Geological Survey confirmed that a magnitude 3.9 earthquake struck Daytona Beach during a USS Gerald R. Ford impact load. The US Navy wanted to test the latest and best aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald R Ford (CVN 78), by exploding a powerful explosion and evaluating whether or not the ship was ready for war.
