Kamala Harris took oath as the new Vice President of the United States on Wednesday. She has become the first Black person, first woman, and first of Asian American descent to take up the new responsibility. Ms. Harris served as San Francisco's first female district attorney, and she was also California's first woman of color to be elected attorney general.Ms. Harris, 56, is the daughter of immigrants, with her mother coming to the United States from India and her father from Jamaica. The ancestral village Thulasenthirapuram in Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu has celebrated grandly after Kamala Harris holds the second-highest US office.
