Cyclone Nivar makes landfall near Puducherry, weakens into severe cyclonic storm
TAMIL NADU: Cyclone Nivaer crossed the coast near Puducherry between 11:30 pm of November 25th to 2:30 am of November 26th. The very severe cyclone Nivar has weakened into a severe cyclone said India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday. IMD took to Twitter and tweeted as "SEVERE CYCLONIC STORM ‘NIVAR’ WOULD MOVE NORTHWEST WARDS AND WEAKEN FURTHER INTO A CYCLONIC STORM DURING NEXT 03 HOURS." According to the officials, more than one lakh people were evacuated across Tamil Nadu and nearly one thousand people were shifted to a safe place in Puducherry. Heavy rains are predicted across Rayalaseema and few districts of coastal Andhra.
