Covid-19 vaccine: Oxford trials show 70 per cent efficacy
Raising hopes for a rapid coronavirus vaccine roll-out, AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford on Monday announced that their experimental vaccine candidate, AZD1222, has shown 70 per cent effectiveness in preventing COVID-19, according to an interim analysis of the final data from clinical trials. Oxford-AstraZeneca further said that the vaccine could be around 90 per cent effective under one dosing regimen. The trials were conducted on thousands of volunteers in the UK and Brazil. However, the preliminary reports of Pfizer and Moderna have shown their vaccines were 95 per cent effective.
