The Supreme Court on Thursday refused to stay the AP High Court order over AP government’s plan to introduce English as a medium of instruction for classes 1 to 6 in government schools. The bench led by Justice Justice D Y Chandrachud has issued notices to respondents and posted the next hearing to September 25. The AP government had filed a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the apex court challenging the High Court verdict. The advocate of the AP government has sought for the stay by saying that 85 percent parents and Telugu medium students are in favour of English medium instruction in government schools.
