India bans import of 101 defence items for self-reliance: Rajnath Singh

India's defence ministry made an important decision on the self-reliance concept. India will ban 101 defence items, including high technology weapons comprising artillery guns, rifles, sonar systems, and other forms of transport aircraft. The main aim is to encourage the production of indigenous goods as part of the self-reliant concept on defence.

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has made his clear on his official Twitter handle. The defence minister said it would strengthen the base of the Indian defence system. He said the ban on import items would be imposed in a phased manner from 2020 to 2024.
