The incident of Air India Express flight crashing at a runway at Kozhikode international airport on August 7th is an example of a tabletop crash. This type of crash on the tabletop runway has brought back memories of the May 22nd, 2010 crash of Air India Express flight IX 812.

The disaster of 2010 took place due to the pilots' landing errors at the end of the runway that burst into flames claiming the lives of 158 of the 166 people on board.

The tabletop runway in Kozhikode airport in Kerala is such an example as the flight while landing on Friday night in heavy rains fell into a valley 35 feet below and broke into two portions.

The airport's single runway is known as a tabletop runway built atop a hill, plateau, or mountain.
