The Central government on Thursday submitted a counter affidavit in the High Court regarding the three capitals issue. The Union Home Ministry made it clear that setting up capital(s) in the states will fall under the purview of respective state governments. “Centre has no role in establishing or changing the capital(s),” the affidavit said.
The Home Ministry further said that the speeches of ruling and opposition party members in the Rajya Sabha will not come under legal scrutiny. The AP BJP President Somu Veerraju and BJP Rajya Sabha member GVL Narasimha Rao in the past said that the Centre has no role with regard to capitals.
