Iran drops India from Chabahar port rail project citing fund delay as it nears China deal

Four years ago, India and Iran had signed an agreement to construct a rail line from Chabahar port to Zahedan along the border with Afghanistan. Iran has decided to proceed with the construction of the rail line from Chabahar port to Zahedan, along the border with Afghanistan, on its own citing delay from the Indian side in funding and starting the project. Iran’s move to drop the partnership with India comes as it finalises a sweeping 25-year strategic partnership deal with China worth $400 billion. India is closely watching the developments.
