Special Story on Importance of Kanuma Festival

Kanuma is observed on the third day of the Sankranthi festival in the two Telugu states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The festival is dedicated to domestic cattle i.e cows, bulls and other animals that are part of the agrarian economy. On this day, Cattle and cattle sheds are cleaned and the Cows, Oxes, Bulls are decorated with marigold flowers and are worshipped. Kanuma is primarily a day of feasting and merry-making. It is said that Lord Krishna lifted the Govardhan hill to protect the people of Gokulam on this day.
