Nagarjuna Sagar gets huge inflows, five crest gates lifted by officials
Five crest gates of the Nagarjuna Sagar Project (NSP) have been lifted in the morning on Monday, with huge inflows of floodwater reaching the reservoir from Srisailam. The inflows are likely to increase further. This has forced the authorities to decide in favour of lifting the gates to gradually let out the water downstream to Pulichintala and then on to the Prakasam Barrage in Vijayawada. The necessary publicity is given about a possible deluge in the villages on Sunday night and Monday. Before releasing the water, the officials concerned have performed the Pooja to the Krishna river.
