56 p.c. Class VIII students can't do basic math; 27 p.c. can't read; Report
A survey by a voluntary organisation, Pratham, revealed that at least 56 per cent of Class VIII students in India cannot read and at least 27 per cent cannot do basic maths. The organisation, that conducted a survey on educational standards in Indian schools, since 2005, submitted its annual report for 2018, which expressed concern over the falling standards of education in the country. But at the same time, it said that the number of school going children has increased dramatically in the recent years. Also, there rate of absentism has decreased.
