Jasti Chelameswar retired as a Supreme Court (SC) judge in May 2018. During his tenure, he courted controversy, by alerting Chief Justice of India (CJI) through a note, regarding 'lack of transparency' in functioning of the collegium, which is responsible for recommending and selecting candidates, who will be appointed judges of the SC. Chelameswar said that he sticks to his opinion, even to this day. He dismissed the myth that SC judges or those in higher echelons could be 'absolute saints.' However, post retirement Chelameswar is spending his leisure usefully, as revealed by him.
