Theatres in Tamil Nadu were vandalised by ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) workers, who tore posters of the newly released film, Sarkar, which stars superstar, Vijay. They are protesting against the storyline, which is against the ruling party. According to them, the AIADMK has been shown in bad light, as if it is a party that is totally corrupt. Several non-political elements too have criticised the director, A.R.Muragadoss for demeaning a government that has been put in place by some seven crores people. Meanwhile, despite all the protests, the film is running house full.
