Centre unhappy with crackdown on activists
Centre appears to be unhappy over the crackdown on human rights activists by Pune Police. It is learnt that the Centre has expressed its unhappiness over the extreme step by Pune police, allegedly without keeping Maharashtra Director General of Police (DGP) and Intelligence Bureau (IB) in the loop. The Centre also seemed to be upset that the pan India arrests were not communicated to Central agencies or Maharashtra DGP. They are also upset about the procedural lapses. It remains to be seen how Pune police will defend itself when the matter comes up for hearing in Supreme Court and how the Central government will help.
