Officials opened the gates as inflows in the project have been increasing from the past five days. The water levels have been increasing due to floods in Munneru, Vaira and Katlas rivers. It is for the first time in the past two years that the crest gates have been lifted to release excess water. Visitors to the dam site expressed joy to see the flowing waters.
