Punjab Govt To Call For Death Penalty For Drug Dealers, Smugglers
The Punjab government in a special meeting of the state Cabinet held in Chandigarh recommended the death penalty for drug peddling and smuggling in the state. The proposal to give capital punishment to the accused has been sent to the Centre for approval. The Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh tweeted: 'Since drug peddling is destroying entire generations, it deserves exemplary punishment. I stand by my commitment to a drug-free Punjab.'. However, the opposition is not in favour of it. It is to be seen how the Center will react to the said proposal.
