A special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court's verdict in the 2007 Hyderabad Mecca Masjid blast case has now triggered a fresh round of war of words between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress. The court on Monday acquitted five persons, including Swami Aseemanand. BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, while reacting to the verdict, has urged PM Narendra Modi to initiate cases against Congress leaders P Chidambaram, Rahul and Sonia Gandhi as the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre had then described the Mecca Masjid blast as the handiwork of the Hindu terror outfits. The blast took place on May 18, 2007 during Friday prayers and it killed 9 persons and injured over 50.
