EC Demands Power to Deregister Political Parties

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has proposed that people against whom charges have been framed by a court for offenses punishable should be restricted in the election. It said that people should be barred from contesting polls if strong cases were registered against them. The Election Commission of India is of the opinion that such a step would help in cleansing the political establishment from the influence of negative elements and protecting the sanctity of the legislative houses.
