Union Ministry of Finance (MoF) stated that there are no records related to the over Rs. 8,000 crore loan given to liquor baron, Vijay Mallaya. The MoF gave this to the Chief Information Commissioner (CIC). The transparency panel said that the response was vague and not sustainable as per law. In 2017, Union minister for Finance, Santhosh Gangwar told Parliament that Vijay Mallya was given a loan in September 2004. The issue came up when an individual wanted the information through Right to Information (RTI).
