Election Commission (EC) has urged political parties to amend laws in such a way so as to ban anonymous donations to political parties, above Rs. 2,000. It also proposed exemption of Income Tax (IT) to those parties that contested and won the Lok Sabha or Assembly elections. As of now there is only an indirect or partial ban on anonymous donations, for a sum of over and above Rs. 20,000 as per Section 29C of Representation of Peoples' Act of 1951. The EC wants to this to be amended for a sum of Rs. 2,000, as part of its reforms towards curbing black money.
