Rs 2.9 lakh bribe paid to port staff in new Rs 2,000 notes in Gujarat, held
As the country struggles with the aftermath of the ban on high denomination currency--a move aimed to root out black money--two officials of Kandla Port Trust in Gujarat have been arrested by Anti-Corruption Bureau officials for accepting a bribe of Rs 2.5 lakh. Another Rs 40,000 was recovered from the home of one of them. The entire bribe money was paid to officials through a middlemen in new Rs 2,000 notes. The ACB sleuths said that the officials will be produced in the court after filing a case against them.
